Overview

UNIFY Financial Credit Union is looking for a Legal Services AVP who is responsible for acting as an agent for the Credit Union with regards to all legal matters, liabilities and rights.

This position is based in Mesa, AZ Operations Center.

Responsibilities

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

 

Maintains, administers, and monitors policies and procedures that ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and rules that govern the Credit Union’s legal and vendor management processes.

 

Provides review and legal advice to branch, operational, compliance and contact center teams, including suits pertaining to the operations of the Credit Union or actions taken by its employees. This includes regular reviews of Powers of Attorney, Trusts, Garnishments, Levies, Conservatorships, Guardianships, Representative Payees, Letters of Administration, Letters of Testamentary and subpoenas.

 

Maintains overall oversight and direction of the Vendor Management program, including contract review, vendor management system, vetting and risk classification of vendors, annual certifications, and tracking. Manages team members responsible or vendor management system.

 

Consults with UNIFY management on any new laws, regulations or statutes, whether state or federal, that would introduce additional risks to the Credit Union. Maintains knowledge of current financial institution laws and regulatory requirements.

 

Reviews, and may draft, contracts, leases, and agreements as necessary prior to entering into by or with UNIFY, or on behalf of UNIFY by any employee or third party. Where necessary, may be requested to interpret the circumstances in which contracts were made, and to clearly communicate the terms and conditions of contracts that are drafted. May partner with CU management to initiate or terminate vendor contracts.

 

Develops oversight, visibility and coordination of UNIFY general counsel responsibilities by coordinating, tracking and utilizing outside firms across the organization.

 

For direct reports, ensures that UNIFY procedures are followed with respect to time sheets, interviewing, staff meetings, coverage, counseling, performance evaluation, training, motivation and discipline of assigned employees.

 

Ensures full compliance with UNIFY Financial Federal Credit Union Service Standards and the Bank Secrecy Act.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications, Experience and Education

 

Requires a Juris Doctoral Degree from an ABA accredited institution and a minimum of three years’ experience with responsibilities comparable to the position, and with a strong preference for experience with a financial institution.

 

Experience in contract review and vendor management is strongly preferred.

 

Requires the highest level of communication effectiveness and being able to articulate legal complexities to level appropriate audience.

 

Requires proficiency in standard Microsoft Office suite and Outlook.
